The Drill Court at the San Francisco Armory is a 40,000 square foot event space, with 4,000 capacity the use of which is restricted only by your imagination. It boasts a floating maple floor, easy access, plenty of power, excellent acoustics, and many other amenities. It is reputed to be the largest unsupported enclosed volume in San Francisco, featuring a dramatic exposed roof structure composed of curved steel open-web trusses. In the 1920’s through the 1940’s, the Armory served as San Francisco’s primary sports venue, eventually earning the nickname, “The Madison Square Garden of the West.” For almost three decades, at least two prizefights were held in the Drill Court each week. Notable fighters to compete at the Armory were Young Jim Corbett III, Jackie Fields, Mike Teague, Armand Emanuel, Jack Thompson and Pete Myers.

The San Francisco Armory is a reproduction of a Moorish castle completed in 1914 and used as a National Guard facility until 1976. It retains original period details, including wainscoting, stone staircases, sweeping corridors, and the Drill Court. The Armory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. We have continued to modernize the building while preserving its rich historical aesthetic.
