The Bindery is a satellite space for The Booksmith, a 41-year-old independent bookstore and legacy business located in the historic Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, featuring a dedicated events parlor and a full-service bookstore.

The parlor has a full alcohol license, with beer and kombucha on tap, a wine selection and select craft cocktails. Well-insulated for sound, the space has an incredible sound system, high definition projector and wall-size screen, and comfortable seating with completely customizable room configurations that range from cocktail tables to theater style to living room, with leather couches and armchairs. The parlor is available to rent 7 days and nights a week for all manner of events, literary and otherwise.

The Bindery is also a full-service bookstore featuring an experimental keystone, The Arcana Project: a deep, highly inclusive array of about 10,000 books—fiction and nonfiction, from all over the world—presented in chronological order, according to the dates they were written.

Rentals can be made private or public.

Hours Of Operation 8am - 1am. Hours are flexible in both directions, depending on the event/use.
Rental Policy To confirm a booking, a 50% deposit is required. Full payment is due on the day of the event. All food must be approved in advance, and comes with a refundable $50 cleaning fee. For all rentals, should the space not be restored to its original condition, an additional fee shall be charged, commensurate with cleanup. The Bindery is an all-ages venue. Other rules and regulations may apply. Please send any specific questions directly to events@booksmith.com.
Cancellation Policy Cancellations with notice of less than 2 weeks forfeit their deposit. Cancellations of less than 96 hours forfeit the entire rental cost.
